Person with ADHD with thousands of hobbies and interests

I’m Bregje, and I’ve worked front-of-house since I was fourteen, currently at a restaurant. On this site I share what it’s like to live with ADHD and with a disability, in everyday life.
I’d describe myself as chaotic, helpful, open, honest and direct. Once autumn arrives, you’ll find me surrounded by pumpkins. Separately, I collect candles, and have a soft spot for blonde china.
I notice the ADHD most during busy moments, or when a routine suddenly falls apart. Fixed patterns help me keep an overview, and it helps enormously when people are simply clear with me. What I find hard is when people can’t understand how I feel in a certain moment, and being under- or overestimated. I’m proud of how much better I’ve gotten at handling that.
He’s a real creature of routine, which suits my ADHD.
At work I mostly stay focused by keeping busy, and thankfully my manager handles that well. At home with Dennis things go well too. He’s a real creature of routine, which suits my ADHD, though that sometimes clashes with my need for my own space. How that plays out in practice, you can read more about in the blog posts.
I’m a member of the client council at ASVZ, the organisation I live with, and as a volunteer I regularly talk about my experiences, with my condition, and with living in a care setting, both on my own and together with my boyfriend. People kept asking if I had more information written down somewhere, and that’s how this website came to be.
I hope that whoever reads this takes away that things can be different, and that a lot more is possible than people often think in a similar situation.
